Mary Palmer

Mary Palmer has been living in Ireland now for over 15 years having moved with her husband from the Detroit area of America. Already having a love for quilts, Mary started making her own quilts soon after. Like many other patchworkers she began by using dressmaking/decorator fabrics but soon realised she needed quilters cotton.

Finding it hard to source this locally she started a small home-based quilt shop importing fabrics from around the globe. As the business grew so did her love of teaching and pattern design.  Last year she sold her quilt shop and is now concentrating on her pattern design business Marimu Designs and teaching patchwork.

Mary's Class Descriptions

MP01 - Square in square

Do you have lots of fat quarters or just a love of scrappy looking quilts?  Would you like to learn a fast effective way to use your fat quarters?  Or just make a fast easy quilt?  If so, this is the class for you.  During this class you will learn how to transform only 14 fat quarters into this wonderful square in a square design.  By the end of the day you should have the bones of a throw size quilt top finished.  Mary is a wonderful teacher who aims to provide a fun and informative day for her students. Along the way you are sure to pick up lots of tips from this generous teacher.

MP02 - Square on Point

This class is similar to mp01.  Again, 14 fat quarters to make this gorgeous top.  It is a little more difficult than the square in a square but still a quick and easy quilt.  A great way to make a dent in your stash  - making space for more fabric! Try both classes and be amazed at the how different your quilts look!

MP03 - Mariners' Compass

Have you ever wondered how to create your own wonderful Mariners' Compass designs?  These multiple point stars look wonderful, complicated and difficult!  In this class Mary will demystify the compass and show you how to draft and construct your own.  Drafting for the 8, 16, and 32 point compasses will be taught with variations on each as well.  Colour choices and construction methods will also be discussed.
